I had made my mother a present when I was in the 5th grade that she still had hanging in her bedroom fifty-plus years later. Great art it was not, but macaroni noodles glued to a piece of cardboard, spray painted gold. And to make matters even more silly, I kept it. Why? Because Mom cherished it. Crazy emotions, for certain. :-)
Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18368318730124533690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-942892890615806086.post-50092812722090892372023-08-29T02:06:22.952-05:002023-08-29T02:06:22.952-05:00Barbara H. thank you for your kind words. There wasn't a time since the house was vacant that I walked past her kitchen window that I didn't expect to see her smiling face as she sat painting, and I always waved. Good memories to cherish. :-)Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18368318730124533690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-942892890615806086.post-18664380947017889172023-08-27T16:52:22.520-05:002023-08-27T16:52:22.520-05:00No home we lives in as an adult, not even a home w...No home we lives in as an adult, not even a home we raise our children in, will have the same connection to our sole and spirit as our childhood home: it is so intertwined with who we are, and even somewhat perplexing.
In dealing with my mom's home after her passing I felt those crazy emotions, parting with items so connected to my youth was physically painful.
With everything else that went on in your life in the past several years, I'm glad you finally found the time and courage to go through this challenging process. You have experienced many difficult things. I am so impressed with the way you honored your mother and her house. It's so hard - so many memories and the loss staring you in the face at each step. But oh my goodness, you respected the material of the house so much, sending what could still be used out to others. I see no shame - only respect for your mother and the house that sheltered her and her family for many decades. Cry your tears but I feel that you found a way to do what needed to be done with love, heartbreak and honor.Barbara H.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13624604708371495092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-942892890615806086.post-5446735736722173372023-08-23T01:13:01.524-05:002023-08-23T01:13:01.524-05:00CiNdEe's GaRdEn, my condolences on the loss of...CiNdEe's GaRdEn, my condolences on the loss of your parents and the loss of your childhood home. Seeing the house sit empty was so hard, in a way, I wish we could have done the demolition sooner, but things just didn't work out as we'd hoped. We do enjoy our remodeled home very much. I also lost my parents. My dad has been gone for 10 years and my Mom 7. We sold her house because neither me or my brother wanted it. It sat empty for two years and then the new owners TORE it down. I cried too. It devastated me. My Mom loved that house. The new owners built a new house, but it is not the same. That was my house growing up. So I can understand your feelings. I hope you are enjoying your remodeled home now! That was a lot of work too!
