Ohio/Michigan Trip Pt 2

 Back to our trip last week; here we are still in the Lakeview Cemetery and the nearby Mayfield Cemetery next door..  There are so many amazing stone carvings, bronze works, and stained glass windows:

With so many glorious sculptures...

These doors were my favorite, the design is gorgeous!

;
Now on to some more of the stained glass:
It is hard to take photos of these windows, since they are inside of mausoleums, but Joel did a great job!

 The James A. Garfield Monument:

Circular staircase leading up and down in the monument.

Ok, next stop will be the Cleveland Art Museum and Botanical Garden.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!

You would love to visit Graceland Cemetary in Chicago. It looks very similar with lots of famous people buried there. In fact today, we are going to a portrayal of Bertha Palmer (who is buried there with her husband Potter Palmer).

He was the original owner of Marshall Fields and developed much of the Chicago Downtown area. Bertha was quite a force herself.

The stained glass is beautiful and I am surprised it has held up so well over all these years.

Since you see my blog on occasion, I bet you can guess how much I liked this post. Five picks worth did not even cover it. I hope everyone virtually sees this place. The architecture, stained glass and statuary is wonderful and so much in my interest zone. I would love to visit. Cemeteries do have some of the most incredible stonework. Thanks for this post. Julian, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour!

Eileen, I can't wait to tour Graceland, thank you for the tip! Yes, it is amazing that time (and vandals) haven't taken a toll on this lovely cemetery.

Gina, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour.

Donna, I hope you do have a chance to tour this cemetery, it is a true haven for anyone who loves architecture, stone masonry and history! I really enjoy your blog, also!

Wow! How gorgeous are those statues. The details are so fabulous. I do genealogy research and I would have loved going into this Cemetery and church. The stained glass is so beautiful.

Hocking Hills Gardener, are you near Cleveland? If you are, you'd love Lakeview! We love Hocking Hills, TOO, by the way, some of the most beautiful scenery we've ever seen!
